The Flamingo Las Vegas was opened in 1946 by mobster Bugsy Siegel, and at the time was billed as the most luxurious hotel in the world. It was the third resort to open on the Las Vegas Strip, and is the oldest of the resorts still in operation on the Strip today. It features a Miami / Art Deco architectural style, and boasts a 15-acre Caribbean-style water playground, as well as a wildlife habitat featuring a flock of live Chilean Flamingos and other feathered friends. A memorial plaque commemorating the hotel's infamous first owner exists on the Flamingo site near the outdoor wedding chapel.
